How do you acquire new knowledge through reading? "Learn to Ask" proposes two ways of thinking: sponge thinking and gold rush thinking, see which one you belong to?
As the name suggests, just like a sponge placed in water will fully absorb water, you passively absorb the information of the outside world, easily and quickly.
Read word for word, trying to remember what you're reading, marking key words and sentences, filling notes with themes and bullet points, reviewing books or notes from time to time, make sure you don't forget anything.
The more knowledge and information you absorb, the more weight you carry. But once the amount of information received reaches its limit, it becomes like a sponge that can't absorb water. With the information overload of the information age, we are more likely to make trade-offs between information and ideas, but spongy thinking emphasizes the acquisition of knowledge, the belief in the author's ideas and the latest reading, so I don't know what to make of it.
Gold Rush Thinking:
As its name suggests, the reader is constantly asking questions and thinking about answers as he or she reads, actively debating and interacting with the ideas in the author's book, and finally coming up with his or her own best judgment and most reasonable opinion.
Gold-rush thinking emphasizes the positive interaction with knowledge in the process of acquiring knowledge. Readers often question why the author put forward a variety of ideas, always with the reading material interaction, critical evaluation of the reading material, objective evaluation of their own conclusions.
The self-feeling is still in the spongy thinking mode. Whether it is the knowledge in the book or the words spoken by others, they are often taken in. What they say makes sense. They do not ask why or how other people came to this conclusion, blindly believe, record.
But to judge right and wrong, and need a little knowledge accumulation to do. Therefore, the two ideas are not contradictory, the early use of spongy thinking to get more knowledge, and then from the river of knowledge out of the wisdom of gold.
